Bangkok, Friendship, Music

Music and Friendship

When I arrived home today, there was a surprise for me in the mail box, all the way from Thailand.  Darryl had sent me not one, but two, of his signature personally compiled cd’s.  The first song on Cafe del Darryl, took me back to the taxi ride to the Bangkok airport when I was first leaving over three years ago now.  To meet ali for our first travel adventure together in Hanoi, Vietnam.  I don’t know the name of the song, but it’s very similar to the last song on another cd Darryl made me that I was listening to in that taxi ride to the airport.

Suddenly, I could feel the sweltering heat on my face.  The humidity.  I could imagine the flower sellers waiting at the lights, selling jasmine rings to be hung from rear view mirrors.  A blessing.  The motorci’s racing by.  Smoke curled up behind them.  The noise pollution combined with the smog.  The intense smells.  The extensive memories.  Of the time and of friendships.  And also of leaving.  Saying goodbye to a place that had been my home for over three years.  The longest time I have lived somewhere since graduating college…And now look at my life.

What a long, strange trip it’s been.  te he.  Thanks Darryl.  For the trip down memory lane.  And all the fabulous memories that we keep on making!

  1. Hey, glad to have made your day. The song is “L’Amour Magica Amor” by Oliver Shanti, which ironically Nancy of all people introduced me to. I thought of you when I heard that song, and yes it does sound a lot like the Gladiator end credits song I put on your other CD. Glad you enjoy them!
